War Crimes in Al-Bayda: 115 Rights Organizations Condemn Houthi Attacks on Al-Hanaka Village
A total of 115 Yemeni human rights organizations have condemned the horrific crimes committed by Houthi militias since Thursday, January 9, 2025, targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure in Al-Hanaka village, Al-Masoud tribe, in the Qayfa area of Rada district, Al-Bayda governorate, central Yemen.

In a joint statement issued on Friday, the organizations revealed that the attacks resulted in the death and injury of 13 civilians, including women and children. The crimes also included a suffocating siege on the village, drone bombardments, preventing the wounded from receiving medical aid, and the destruction and burning of places of worship and private properties. Hundreds of families were forced to flee their homes under the pressure of siege and shelling, as reported by the official Yemeni News Agency.

The statement further highlighted that the Houthis intensified their military escalation by deploying significant reinforcements to the area and arbitrarily arresting several residents on fabricated charges. They also cut off access to water, food, and medicine, worsening the humanitarian situation, particularly for children and the elderly, amid the absence of an urgent international response.

The organizations described these violations, which include deliberate killings, siege, forced displacement, and targeting of places of worship and civilian structures, as flagrant breaches of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, amounting to war crimes.

The statement called on the international community and the United Nations to take immediate action to halt these violations and pressure the Houthis to lift the siege on Al-Hanaka village immediately. It also urged the provision of safe corridors to deliver humanitarian aid and called on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and all international mechanisms to condemn these crimes and ensure those responsible are held accountable.

For the past three days, the “Al-Hanaka Al-Masoud” village in Qayfa, Al-Bayda governorate, has been under heavy Houthi attack, including tank shelling and drone strikes. Initial reports indicate that the attacks have so far resulted in one death and 12 injuries, including three women, along with the destruction of several homes and the targeting of mosques and Quran learning centers.
