Hamas: Resistance is a Legitimate Right for the Palestinian People
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) affirmed that all forms of resistance are a legitimate right for the Palestinian people and will continue until freedom and return are achieved.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem clarified that statements attributed to Hamas Political Bureau member Musa Abu Marzouk do not represent the movement’s official stance. Qassem emphasized that Israel’s aggressive and destructive actions are the main cause of the devastation in Gaza, which is part of a broader ongoing destruction in the West Bank.
Qassem also stated that the October 7, 2023, operation marked a strategic turning point in the Palestinian national struggle
In a statement to Anadolu Agency, Hamas refuted claims made by The New York Times regarding statements allegedly made by Musa Abu Marzouk. Hamas clarified that Abu Marzouk stressed during the interview that the October 7 operation was a manifestation of the Palestinian people’s right to resist, and their rejection of the blockade, occupation, and settlements. The movement also stated that Israel is responsible for committing war crimes and genocide against the people of Gaza, which violates international law and shocked the international community.
According to Anadolu Agency, The New York Times reported that Abu Marzouk said, "Had I known the extent of the destruction the October 7 attack on Israel would cause to Gaza, I would not have supported such an attack." However, Hamas confirmed that Abu Marzouk was unaware of the specific plans for the October 7 attack, but he, along with other Hamas leaders, supported the broader strategy of military action against Israel.
