Al-Alimi: No Peace Without Crushing Houthi Defeat and Cutting Off Their Power Sources

Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council Chairman, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, warned that the Houthi militia poses a serious existential threat to Yemen and the broader region, emphasizing that this danger will only end with a decisive defeat that strips the group of its funding and weaponry.

During a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, Al-Alimi dismissed the Houthis’ recent signals of flexibility toward de-escalation as deceptive tactics, designed merely to reposition and regroup under the cover of international leniency.

He called for leveraging the current international and regional support to empower the legitimate government to restore full national sovereignty and confront a militia that continues to threaten global maritime routes and regional stability with direct Iranian backing.

Al-Alimi praised the U.S. efforts in enforcing arms embargoes and intercepting smuggled Iranian weapons, stressing the need to sustain these actions to dismantle the Houthis' threat network.

He further urged the formation of a strong international and regional security partnership with Yemen's legitimate authorities to protect vital waterways and address the growing Houthi menace, which now extends beyond Yemen’s borders.
