Yemeni Government Ready for Full Prisoner Exchange; Haij Accuses Houthis of “Media Stunt”
Sheikh Hadi Haij, head of the Prisoners and Detainees Committee in Yemen’s internationally recognized government, declared Friday, June 6, 2025, their full readiness to exchange all prisoners under the "all-for-all" principle. He accused the Houthi group of engaging in "media stunts" instead of genuine negotiations.
Haij’s remarks came in response to Houthi official Abdul Qader al-Murtadha’s Eid statement calling for an inclusive exchange of all prisoners from all sides.
“If the Houthis were not obstructing the process, the detainees would be with their families this Eid,” Haij said. “We’re ready, but the Houthis must disclose the fate of the disappeared, especially politician Mohammed Qahtan.”
The last major exchange occurred in April 2023, with 900 prisoners released. Talks in Muscat in July 2024 ended without results.
