Shocking Espionage Scandal: Senior Houthi Leader Arrested in Lebanon for Spying for Israel
Despite the Houthi militia’s relentless efforts to secure its leadership circle with thick layers of secrecy and protection, a major intelligence breach has now shattered that illusion of invulnerability.

According to the Lebanese news site Lebanon 24, a Yemeni national and high-ranking member of the Houthi movement was arrested in Lebanon for spying for Israel. The suspect was reportedly responsible for coordinating between Hezbollah and the Houthi militia in Yemen.

Mossad’s Reach: Deep Inside the Houthi Hierarchy
The report revealed that the Israeli Mossad had recruited this Houthi official, who subsequently fed sensitive information to Tel Aviv, including details about internal structures in Yemen and operational links with Hezbollah.

A Yemeni security source confirmed the report to Al-Ain News, describing the incident as a deep and damaging breach within the Houthis' inner ranks.

A Climate of Paranoia Since 2024’s Israeli Strikes
This espionage scandal appears to be part of the wider security tightening imposed by the Houthis after Israel began targeting Houthi assets in 2024. Following the Israeli airstrike on the Port of Hodeidah in July 2024, Houthi leaders virtually vanished from public view.

Key measures included:

Complete isolation of top commanders from public and political activity

Removal of second-tier officials from executive roles in Sana'a and other controlled areas

Detention of insiders and relatives accused of foreign contact, especially with international organizations

A Hezbollah-Inspired Crackdown
The Houthis seem to be mimicking Hezbollah's behavior after Israel eliminated several senior Hezbollah figures. Even Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah disappeared from the spotlight, signaling Israel’s precision in decapitating hostile command structures.

Fearing similar targeted operations, the Houthis responded with internal purges and heightened surveillance, but this arrest may indicate the failure of those efforts.

One Spy or the Tip of the Iceberg?
Was this just an isolated incident, or the beginning of a collapse in Houthi internal security? The extent of Mossad’s penetration into the movement remains unclear, but this incident sends a clear message: even the most secretive factions are not immune to infiltration.
