Israeli Airstrikes Shake Sanaa: Power Plant in Flames, Israeli Army Issues Urgent Statement
Massive explosions rocked Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, early Sunday morning (August 17, 2025) after two Israeli airstrikes targeted the Hiziyz Power Station located south of the city.
According to local sources, massive fires broke out at the main power facility following the strikes, with thick smoke columns covering the skies and causing panic among nearby residents.
In an official statement issued this morning, the Israeli army confirmed that it had struck “energy infrastructure used by the Houthis,” adding that the operation targeted “multiple sites linked to vital energy facilities.”
Health authorities in Sanaa have not yet released an official casualty toll, but eyewitnesses reported that several injured people were rushed to local hospitals.
The attack comes as part of Israel’s intensified military campaign against Houthi targets in Yemen in recent weeks, which Tel Aviv describes as an effort to “cut Iran’s supply routes to the Houthis.”
