Hamas Reveals New Details About Haniya's Assassination and Responds to Channel 12 Israel's Claims
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has denied the information published by Channel 12 Israel, confirming that the details of the assassination of its political bureau chief, Ismail Haniya, in the Iranian capital Tehran, as presented by the channel, are false and part of an attempt to cover up the truth.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, Hamas condemned the claims broadcasted by Channel 12 Israel on Saturday, which described the circumstances of Haniya's assassination. The statement emphasized that the details presented by the Israeli channel were fabricated and did not reflect the true nature of the operation.
According to Channel 12 Israel, the assassination of Haniya took place through a bomb planted in his room at the official Iranian guesthouse in Tehran, where he was staying during his official visit to attend the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Bezhkishan. However, Hamas rejected this narrative, stating that the assassination occurred in a different manner.
Investigations Reveal the Truth
Hamas revealed that investigations conducted by a joint committee consisting of its own security services and Iranian security forces concluded that the assassination was carried out using a guided missile, not a bomb as claimed by the Israeli channel. According to Hamas, the missile, which carried 7.5 kilograms of explosives, directly targeted Haniya's mobile phone, resulting in his instant martyrdom.
Hamas also stressed that the information published by Channel 12 Israel was a "pile of lies" aimed at "diverting attention" from the actual crime, which it described as a "complex crime" violating the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Hamas emphasized that the attack was carried out with a missile targeting one of Iran's official locations, reflecting the severity of the operation.
Israeli Investigation and New Evidence
Channel 12 Israel had published a report titled "Mossad in the Heart of Tehran… This is How Israel Killed Ismail Haniya in the Most Protected Complex," citing new details about the assassination. The channel claimed that the Israeli military censorship had permitted the release of additional information about the assassination that took place on July 31.
The investigation mentioned that Haniya had been seen visiting the same site in Tehran repeatedly and staying in the same room, making his routine predictable. The Mossad, according to the report, targeted Haniya using a bomb placed in his room, ensuring that no one else was killed except for Haniya.
Channel 12 described the assassination as "one of the most dangerous and sensitive operations in intelligence history," emphasizing the challenge of carrying out such an operation in Tehran.
Hamas' Response and Israel's Responsibility
In response to the Israeli investigation, Hamas called the Israeli claims a "desperate attempt to cover up the truth." The movement reiterated that Israel was fully responsible for the assassination of Haniya, a prominent leader of Hamas.
Hamas also condemned Israel’s ongoing policy of violating the sovereignty of other nations through such targeted assassinations, calling it an example of Israel's efforts to eliminate key resistance figures in the region.
The movement emphasized that Israel’s continuous operations against Palestinian and Arab leaders represent political murders aimed at hindering regional resistance.
