UN Envoy Condemns Israeli Strike on Sana'a Airport: “Unacceptable Targeting of Civilians”
The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrike on Sana'a International Airport, which led to the destruction of Yemen’s last functioning civilian aircraft and rendered the airport inoperative.
In a statement, Grundberg said: “The destruction of this essential travel facility deprives thousands of Yemenis from traveling for medical, educational, family, or religious purposes — especially during the upcoming Hajj season. This is unacceptable.”
He emphasized that attacks on civilian infrastructure — whether in Sana’a or Tel Aviv — are in clear violation of international law, urging all parties to exercise restraint and protect civilians.
Grundberg reiterated the need for a Yemeni-led political dialogue, with regional support, as the only viable path to lasting peace and stability in Yemen and the region.
