Only 80 Minutes Between Istanbul and Ankara: Turkey Unveils Mega Transport Project
In a bold move to transform national transportation, Turkish Minister of Transport Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced a new highway and a high-speed train project that will cut travel time between Istanbul and Ankara to just 80 minutes.

Speaking at the "International Corridors and Turkey" conference in Istanbul, the minister revealed that the highway will stretch from Akyazı to Ankara via Nallıhan, while the high-speed train will reach a top speed of 350 km/h.

He noted that Turkey’s railway network will expand to 17,500 kilometers by 2028, and the total highway length will grow from 3,796 km to 8,600 km with ongoing and planned projects in major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, Çanakkale, Antalya, Alanya, Mersin, and Hatay.

The new Akyazı-Ankara route will be part of the earthquake-resistant "Marmara Highway" project.

In the aviation sector, Uraloğlu projected over 240 million air travelers through Turkish airports this year. He also highlighted the national satellite "Türksat 6A," capable of reaching up to 5 billion people, and revealed plans to launch 5G technology by 2026.

Additionally, Turkey will pilot its first "smart road" between Hasdal and Istanbul Airport, providing real-time traffic, weather, and accident alerts. The trial will begin in Antalya before national rollout.
