US Central Command Announces Successful Airstrike Killing ISIS Leader in Syria
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it carried out a successful airstrike that resulted in the death of ISIS leader in Syria, known as "Abu Yusuf" or Mahmoud, in Deir ez-Zor province.
CENTCOM reported that the strike, executed on December 19, also killed two ISIS members.
The Central Command explained that this operation is part of its ongoing commitment to collaborate with regional partners to disrupt terrorist activities and prevent attacks against civilians, US military forces, and their allies.
CENTCOM also noted that the area where the strike took place was previously under the control of the Syrian regime and Russian forces.
General Michael Corella, commander of US Central Command, confirmed that the United States will not allow ISIS to exploit the current situation in Syria to reorganize, pointing out that more than 8,000 ISIS members are being held in facilities across Syria.
General Corella emphasized the US's resolve to target ISIS leaders and operatives attempting to carry out operations outside Syria's borders.
