Yemeni Government Welcomes U.S. Decision to Designate Houthis as Foreign Terrorist Organization
The Yemeni government welcomed the United States' decision on Tuesday to designate the Houthi militia as a foreign terrorist organization, calling it a "significant step" in addressing the threats posed by the Iran-backed group.
In a statement released by Yemen's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and carried by the official news agency "Saba," the government emphasized that the decision would be an effective tool in limiting the financial and material support for the Houthis, who have targeted civilians and infrastructure in Yemen and neighboring countries.
The statement also pointed out the Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, which pose a threat to maritime security.
The Yemeni government urged the international community to take similar steps to cut off the Houthi financing sources and halt their arming, stressing that this decision strengthens the partnership with the United States and its allies in combating terrorism
Additionally, the government expressed its appreciation for the U.S. support for the Presidential Leadership Council and efforts to achieve peace in Yemen, reaffirming its readiness to cooperate with international partners to ensure the implementation of the decision and bolster security and stability in the region
