Strong Arab Consensus at Emergency Summit in Cairo on Palestinian Cause and Gaza Reconstruction
The emergency Arab summit held in Cairo on Tuesday witnessed strong Arab consensus regarding the Palestinian issue, with a clear rejection of any attempts to expel Palestinians from their lands. The summit also expressed support for Egypt’s plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip, which has been severely damaged due to the recent conflict.
In his speech, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi emphasized the importance of initiating a new political track leading to a just resolution of the Palestinian issue. He also announced that Egypt would host an international conference for Gaza reconstruction next month.
Sisi highlighted that the ceasefire in Gaza had been achieved thanks to the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump, expressing hope that the United States could help bring peace to the region.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas presented a comprehensive vision for managing affairs in Gaza and the West Bank, stressing the importance of Palestine fulfilling its duties through its governmental institutions
Abbas called for support of Egypt’s reconstruction plan and for the mobilization of international support through a special trust fund.
Arab leaders at the summit expressed their solidarity with Palestine, with Lebanese President Michel Aoun underlining the importance of the cause, noting that Lebanon suffers from Israeli occupation.
Meanwhile, Jordanian King Abdullah II called for regional and international efforts to address the situation in Gaza, reaffirming the rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians.
International support also came from the President of the European Council, who announced the EU’s readiness to support Gaza’s reconstruction plan, while the UN Secretary-General stressed the need to facilitate humanitarian aid access to the strip.
The Arab League Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, made it clear that any attempt to displace Palestinians is unacceptable, highlighting that Gaza’s reconstruction requires halting Israeli aggression.
The summit concluded by reaffirming the importance of enhancing Palestinian national unity, supporting UNRWA, and continuing international efforts to achieve a just peace in the region.
