US Calls for Cessation of Houthi Activities in Iraq
An Iraqi official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Baghdad recently received American positions urging the cessation of Houthi activities in Iraq, including their office in the capital, Baghdad.
The official, speaking to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper, stated that Washington had advised the Iraqi government to close the Houthi office, warning that their continued presence could bring security issues to Iraq due to the ongoing tensions in the region.
The official confirmed that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's government is taking these positions seriously and is working to spare the Iraqi people from the consequences of ongoing conflicts in neighboring countries.
He noted that the Houthi activities mentioned are often media-oriented, and he believes there is an exaggeration by the American side in assessing the extent of the group's presence and activities in Iraq.
It is worth mentioning that the Houthis opened an office in the upscale Jadriya neighborhood in Baghdad several years ago. This office is known as the group's high-level representation and is operated under the supervision of Houthi leaders residing in Iraq.
