Journalist: Houthis Facing Deep Internal Crisis Amid Financial Struggles and Growing Discontent
Yemeni journalist and Houthi affairs analyst Adnan Al-Jabrani said that Houthi militias are experiencing one of their most difficult internal phases, amid a worsening financial crisis, rising dissatisfaction within the group, and declining trust between the leadership and rank-and-file members.

According to Al-Jabrani, the group’s leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi continues to enforce what he described as a “spending priorities matrix,” giving priority to military manufacturing and infrastructure projects under a strategy adopted less than a year ago.

He explained that the Houthi leadership has imposed strict security protocols on senior commanders, including limiting public appearances and restricting movement, a move that has reportedly widened communication gaps within the organization and disrupted operational coordination.

Al-Jabrani also noted that the group has intensified mobilization campaigns among fighters following reports of increasing desertion and defections from camps and battlefronts. He added that most fighters have not received salaries for nearly four months, except for some central sectors, while supervisors continue to receive regular payments.

The journalist said signs of frustration are no longer confined to private circles, but are now appearing publicly through posts and reactions from Houthi supporters themselves, especially after the group’s Interior Ministry released a video allegedly containing “spy confessions.”

According to Al-Jabrani, several supporters questioned the credibility of the confessions and pointed to contradictions in the footage, noting that some individuals named in the video were reportedly still outside prison.

He added that criticism has also focused on what many describe as “double standards” within the group, where individuals from lower social backgrounds are publicly accused and prosecuted, while others appear to enjoy unofficial immunity from similar measures.
