U.S. Administration Plans to End "Guardian of Prosperity" Operation Against Houthi Threats
A U.S. official revealed that the current administration aims to terminate the "Guardian of Prosperity" operation launched in 2023 in response to Houthi attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. According to Al Arabiya, the operation sought to combat the growing maritime threats posed by the group.
The U.S. is exploring proposals under President Joe Biden’s leadership to reach a comprehensive solution not just for maritime security, but also to address the Houthi issue more broadly.
The plan includes designating the Houthis as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" (FTO), a strategic move to punish individuals and foreign institutions aiding the group. This step is intended to create a tighter grip on the Houthi organization within Yemen.
Additionally, the second phase of the plan would lay the legal groundwork for forming an international military coalition capable of targeting Houthi military capabilities, with a much larger and more powerful force than any previous efforts. The coalition would mirror the approach taken against ISIS, with air support and ground forces.
Information suggests that the formation of the coalition could be announced in about five weeks, with the U.S. sanctions already beginning. The goal is for the coalition to establish a tight blockade on Yemen, preventing Iranian military assistance from reaching the Houthis
