Senior Yemeni Politician Calls for Financial Independence to Achieve "Sovereignty"
Shouqi al-Qadhi, a prominent leader of Yemen's Islah Party and a senior parliamentarian, has called for the financial liberation of the Yemeni state, asserting that achieving this is essential for attaining what he described as "sovereignty."

In a post on the social media platform X, al-Qadhi emphasized that Yemen's government institutions, including the Presidential Leadership Council, the Cabinet, Members of Parliament, the Shura Council, party leaders, tribal figures, media professionals, and activists, cannot truly be free until they secure financial independence. He stated, "As long as their salaries are controlled by others, they must remain at home and adhere to obedience."

Al-Qadhi further explained that sovereignty is directly tied to control over financial resources, saying, "As long as their salaries are in the hands of others, they must stay home and follow orders."

Criticizing Yemen's political situation, al-Qadhi described the Houthi attack on the oil export port as "a theater play" and accused the government of colluding in drying up the revenue of the legitimate authority, asserting that the government’s dependence on external funding and the corruption within it only worsens the situation. He also pointed to internal conflicts among corrupt factions over corruption deals.
