Israeli Warplanes Briefly Violate Turkish Airspace During Strikes on Iran, Ankara Scrambles F-16s
On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Turkish newspaper Doğru Haber reported that Israeli fighter jets temporarily violated Turkish airspace while carrying out airstrikes on targets inside Iran. The incident prompted an immediate military response from Ankara, including airborne warnings issued via radio.
According to the report, Turkish Air Force F‑16s were scrambled after detecting the Israeli jets entering Turkish territory. The Turkish military also raised its air defense alert level across the region.
This breach occurred amid an intense military escalation between Iran and Israel, who have been exchanging missile attacks for several days, adding to regional instability and growing international concern.
As of now, the Turkish Ministry of Defense has not released an official statement, and Israel has also refrained from commenting. However, analysts view the breach as a potentially serious test for the fragile and politically strained relations between Turkey and Israel.
Turkey, a NATO member, maintains key air bases near the zones allegedly overflown by the Israeli aircraft—making the situation especially sensitive and possibly opening the door to diplomatic or military developments if the violation is confirmed.
