Gulf in Crisis: Airspaces Closed as Iran Fires Missiles, Qatar Intercepts Attack
In a major escalation, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait, and Iraq announced Monday evening the temporary closure of their airspaces to civilian flights amid growing regional security threats. The move follows Iran’s retaliatory strike against U.S. attacks on its nuclear facilities.
Iraq’s Ministry of Transport confirmed that southern airspace was included in the closure. Kuwait Airways also suspended all outbound flights, citing regional instability and ongoing security assessments.
Qatar Successfully Intercepts Missile Attack
Iran’s missile strike targeted the Al-Udeid U.S. airbase in Qatar as part of what Tehran dubbed the “Bashaer al-Fath” operation. Doha’s air defense systems intercepted the missiles with no casualties or damage reported.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that the suspension of air navigation was to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
The developments mark a critical turning point in Gulf security, raising concerns over the safety of civilian aviation in the region.
