Surgical Breakthrough in Aden: First Minimally Invasive Spine Operation Performed in Yemen
In a groundbreaking medical achievement, the German International Hospital in Aden has successfully conducted the first-ever minimally invasive spinal surgery in Yemen — without traditional surgical incisions. The operation marks a revolutionary step in the country's medical field.

The procedure, performed by visiting neurosurgeon and spine specialist Dr. Jihad Mahmoud Al-Yafei and his medical team, treated a 30-year-old woman suffering from severe disc displacement between her L4 and L5 vertebrae, which was causing intense nerve pressure and chronic pain.

Utilizing cutting-edge surgical tools never before used in Yemen, the team managed to stabilize the vertebrae with high precision, significantly reducing the patient’s pain and recovery time. The patient made a full recovery within 24 hours and was discharged in stable condition.

Anesthesiologist Dr. Mohammed Jamal Abdulshakour played a pivotal role in the success of the operation by ensuring safe and accurate anesthesia tailored to the complexity of the procedure.

This success highlights a new era of advanced healthcare capabilities in Yemen and reflects the high standards and expertise now available in local medical institutions.
