Kuwait Revokes the Citizenship of Dr. Tarek Al-Suwaidan… What Is His Real Nationality?
On December 7, 2025, the Kuwaiti government announced through an official decree that it had revoked the citizenship of Islamic thinker and leadership expert Dr. Tarek Al-Suwaidan. The decision reportedly included those who had acquired citizenship through him by dependency.
Dr. Al-Suwaidan has long been known as a Kuwaiti-born citizen belonging to the well-known Al-Suwaidan family, which traces its roots to the Najd region. Despite this, ongoing political debates and frequent social media speculation have fueled repeated questions about his true nationality.
Born in Kuwait in 1953, Al-Suwaidan holds a PhD in petroleum engineering from the University of Tulsa in the United States. He is widely recognized across the Arab world for his contributions to leadership training, management, and Islamic history. His 2013 dismissal from Al-Resalah Channel following political remarks about events in Egypt further amplified public debate surrounding him.
The official decree did not specify the exact legal article used to justify the revocation, nor did it provide detailed reasons behind the decision.
