Israel Halts Hudaydah Ports' Operations After Intense Airstrikes
Following a series of intense Israeli airstrikes on Hudaydah province last week, the region’s ports have been rendered inoperable. Sources from Al Arabiya/Al Hadath revealed today (Monday) that maritime traffic in the Hudaydah ports, under Houthi control, has been halted since December 18.
The airstrikes have blocked ship movements at Hudaydah, Salif, and Ras Isa ports, stranding several vessels.
On December 18, Israeli warplanes carried out 16 airstrikes on Houthi positions, targeting sites in the capital Sana’a, as well as Hudaydah. The strikes specifically hit the Salif and Ras Isa oil ports, which were previously targeted in September. Additionally, four new airstrikes on Sunday targeted various areas in the Salif district in northern Hudaydah.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed further military actions against the Houthis, stating that the group is “the only arm in the Iranian axis that has not yet tested Israeli power.” Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant issued a similar threat, emphasizing, "The Houthis should know that our long arm will reach them."
This comes amid escalating attacks by the Houthis on Israel since the Gaza war began on October 7, 2023, with the Houthis launching missiles and drones toward Israel and targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea in support of Gaza. Some observers suggest that Israel, having weakened Hezbollah’s capabilities in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza, is now more resolute in confronting the Houthis.
