Egypt Imposes New Entry Ban on Syrians: A Controversial Decision

In a significant move, Egypt has announced a new entry ban on Syrians arriving from all countries worldwide, with the exception of those holding temporary residency permits for non-tourism purposes within the country.

Airlines Notified of the Ban
According to sources cited by "Al Arabiya.net," airlines and travel companies have been instructed to deny boarding to Syrian passengers traveling to Egypt unless they meet the required conditions.

Tightened Restrictions on Foreign Residencies
This decision follows a recent policy introduced a few days ago, which mandates Syrians holding European, American, or Canadian residency permits to obtain prior security clearance before entering Egypt. Additionally, Syrians holding Schengen visas or married to Egyptians are also barred from entering without this approval.

Facilitating Voluntary Return of Syrians
Since December, Egypt has taken steps to facilitate the voluntary return of Syrian residents to their homeland, reaffirming its commitment to providing all necessary support and assistance during this process.

Background to the Decision
These tightened security measures are linked to regional and political changes in Syria, particularly following the collapse of former President Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8.
