Tensions Rise Over "Mahan Air" Flight Inspection in Beirut: Iranian Parliament Seeks Clarification

The controversy surrounding the "Mahan Air" flight continues after it underwent a thorough inspection at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport, with both passengers and diplomatic bags being checked. This has sparked reactions from Iranian officials.

The Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee has now intervened, with spokesperson Ibrahim Rezaei stating that the committee is reviewing the actions of the Lebanese security forces regarding the treatment of Iranian diplomats and passengers. Rezaei urged the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to follow up on the issue swiftly and ensure it is not repeated. He also called on the Lebanese government to avoid any "suspicious actions" potentially influenced by Western powers, while reaffirming Iran's longstanding support for Lebanon in light of the region's challenges.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi clarified that all passengers, including diplomats, undergo inspection at Beirut Airport. He revealed that security officers found operational funds and documents for the Iranian embassy in the bags of a diplomat who initially resisted the inspection.

The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed receiving a written explanation from the Iranian embassy, stating that the bags contained only documents and funds for embassy operational expenses. It also clarified that the bags were allowed entry in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
