Israel Launches Airstrikes on Southern Syria Following Rocket Fire from Golan
Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on southern Syria late Tuesday, hours after two rockets were fired from the occupied Golan Heights into Israeli territory. The attack was claimed by an unknown group calling itself "Martyr Mohammad al-Deif Brigades."
According to Al Jazeera’s correspondent, the Israeli strikes targeted military sites in Tel al-Shaar, Tel al-Mal, Tel al-Muhass, and the 175th Brigade in the Daraa countryside.
The Israeli army stated it had struck "military assets belonging to the Syrian regime," holding Damascus responsible for any hostile actions emanating from its territory. “The Syrian regime is accountable and will bear the consequences,” the army warned.
In response, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had not yet confirmed reports of fire toward Israel but strongly condemned the Israeli strikes on villages in Daraa province. It described them as a "blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty" and a move that further destabilizes the region.
The ministry called on the international community to intervene and stop Israel’s repeated aggression, stressing that Syria poses no threat to any party and that restoring state control in the south remains a top priority.
Meanwhile, the group identifying itself as "Martyr Mohammad al-Deif Brigades" claimed responsibility for the attack, stating: “Our operations are a response to the massacres in Gaza and will continue until the bombing of the oppressed ceases.”
