Abu Taha Family's Iconic Couch: Hamas Leader Sinwar's Martyrdom Transforms Their Home into a Shrine
On Sunday, after the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, the Abu Taha family returned to their home in Gaza to find that it had become a pilgrimage site due to the couch where Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was martyred in October 2023. The couch, which had faded under the sun and was filled with foam, became the focal point of a momentous event that shocked the family.
The family members were stunned to see Sinwar sitting on the couch, resisting until the last moment before being targeted by an Israeli drone. Yusuf Ashraf Abu Taha, 32, shared his amazement, stating, "We never imagined that such a great leader would be in our home and martyr himself here." He added that the couch, which had been in the family for 54 years, was not just furniture but a cherished heirloom passed down from his grandmother to his father on his wedding day, and then to him.
Yusuf expressed concern about inspecting the entire house, fearing it might still be rigged with explosive devices left behind by the Israeli army. He mentioned that the house was now in ruins and that rebuilding it could take years.
