United Nations Suspends Operations in Sana'a Following U.S. Terrorist Designation of Houthi Group
The United Nations announced today the closure of all its offices in Sana'a and the suspension of its activities in the capital. This move follows the U.S. government's recent designation of the Houthi group as a foreign terrorist organization, leading the UN to reassess the security situation for its personnel.
Yemeni employees working with UN offices in Sana'a told "Aden Al-Ghad" newspaper that they received messages via WhatsApp from local managers of UN agencies informing them that all activities had been suspended.
Sources familiar with the matter indicated that the UN's decision to halt operations in Sana'a comes after recent arbitrary arrests of UN staff by the Houthi group. These actions have raised significant concerns regarding the safety of staff and the ability to carry out humanitarian work in the region.
In an official statement, the United Nations confirmed the suspension of all activities due to the ongoing arbitrary detention of its staff by Houthi forces, stressing the need to ensure the safety of its personnel in the region.
