UN Special Envoy Conducts Talks with Saudi Military Delegation on Ceasefire Efforts in Yemen
The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen has announced that discussions were held over three days with a Saudi military delegation, focusing on necessary steps to establish a ceasefire in Yemen.
The meeting, which took place in Amman from January 21 to 23, included representatives from the Saudi Joint Forces Command and the Military Coordination Committee. The talks centered on various aspects related to planning a ceasefire, emphasizing the importance of building trust among the involved parties.
The statement further highlighted that this meeting followed a prior gathering in December with representatives from the Military Coordination Committee of the Yemeni government.
These discussions are part of ongoing efforts led by international experts aimed at de-escalating the conflict in Yemen
Serhad Fattah, the Deputy Head of the Special Envoy's Office, stated that the goal is to lay a strong foundation for a ceasefire, positioning it as a step toward a sustainable peace process, rather than a temporary halt to hostilities. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with all parties to ensure political dialogue and necessary humanitarian aid.
