Electricity Blackout in Aden: Fuel Crisis Sparks Humanitarian Emergenc
Aden has experienced a complete power outage due to a fuel crisis. The electricity authority announced that the President Power Plant has shut down entirely. This outage comes after an international line in Abyan province was cut off, preventing crude oil tankers from reaching the plant. The electricity plants in Aden are currently producing zero megawatts. The fuel-based plants, which run on mazut, have been out of service due to a lack of mazut for several days, while the diesel plants have been non-operational for an extended period due to diesel shortages.

According to local sources, the President Power Plant went offline this morning due to the depletion of crude oil. The control center was notified about the shutdown at 7:00 AM, although typically, such issues are coordinated one day in advance. The disruption in the supply of crude oil is attributed to interruptions in transport along the Abyan route

The source further explained that solar energy cannot function independently in this situation, as it requires a main generation unit to manage the loads. Plants such as the Beteromsele or Mansura stations are needed to support solar energy to function efficiently.

The Aden Electricity Corporation has stated that this power outage has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, impacting essential infrastructure such as hospitals and health centers. The lack of power is also disrupting the water supply. The local government and the electricity authority have made exceptional efforts in recent weeks to maintain power, but they have faced no response from the relevant authorities regarding fuel supplies despite repeated requests.

The electricity authority has called on the responsible parties to urgently address the issue by providing the necessary fuel to restore services. It emphasized the need for swift action to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
