Yemeni Commander Warns: Houthis Developing Biological Weapons with Iranian Support
Brigadier General Sadeq Dweid, spokesperson for Yemen's National Resistance Forces, has issued a stark warning about what he called a “dangerous shift” in Houthi tactics, revealing confirmed intelligence that the group is working with Iranian experts to produce internationally banned biological weapons.
In an interview with Al-Ain News, Dweid stressed that the world must act swiftly to deter Iran, accusing it of dragging the region into greater chaos through its armed proxies in Yemen.
He also highlighted a vast smuggling operation stretching from the Horn of Africa to the Red Sea, especially through the Houthi-controlled port of Al-Salif.
Recently, Yemeni coast guards—backed directly by the UAE—intercepted one of the largest arms smuggling shipments in the Red Sea, weighing 750 tons and including over 3 million detonators, drone parts, radar systems, and highly explosive cords.
According to Dweid, such equipment is used to manufacture explosive-laden boats and demonstrates Iran's deep military involvement.
He warned of the Houthis' increasing threat to international shipping, noting that many companies have rerouted vessels via the Cape of Good Hope due to high security risks and rising insurance costs.
Dweid called on the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism (UNVIM) in Djibouti to expand its mandate to include small vessels often used in weapons smuggling.
He praised the UAE’s role in rebuilding liberated areas and training Yemen’s coast guard, reaffirming the National Resistance’s commitment to defending Yemen and the Red Sea.
"What is happening in Yemen? What caused the war? And who ignited it?
