Houthis Sentence Ahmed Ali Saleh to Death: A Political Purge of the GPC?
Yemen's Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Moammar Al-Eryani, stated that the death sentence issued by the Houthi militia against Brigadier General Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, son of the former president, reflects the group’s intention to eliminate the remaining leadership of the General People’s Congress (GPC).

In his statement, Al-Eryani emphasized that the sentence lacks any legal or judicial basis and serves as a tool for political retaliation, highlighting the Houthis' deep fear of a possible GPC revival as a national force opposing their Iranian-backed agenda.

The minister noted that the timing of the sentence is also a direct reaction to the recent documentary “The Final Moments”, which revealed new details about the December 2017 uprising led by former President Ali Abdullah Saleh against the Houthis in Sana'a.

Al-Eryani warned that this dangerous escalation reflects the Houthis' rejection of political pluralism and their strategy of violently suppressing opponents. He called on the international community and both the UN and international envoys to condemn these human rights violations and pressure the Houthis to stop weaponizing the judiciary for political revenge.
