"After the Release of 'The Magician and the Snakes' on President Saleh... A New Book by an Egyptian Journalist Unveils 'The Secrets and Mysteries of Yemen'"
Following the release of his previous book "The Magician and the Snakes" about the late President Ali Abdullah Saleh, Egyptian journalist and writer Ibrahim Al-Ashmawi has published a new book titled "In Love with Yemen: A Quarter-Century of Journalism Memories". This latest release sheds light on the rich culture, history, and the ongoing political challenges of Yemen, focusing on his experiences and observations during his career as a journalist.
The book, which spans 277 pages and is divided into eight chapters, explores Al-Ashmawi’s long journey in Yemen over nearly 25 years. It reveals insights into the country’s vibrant heritage, ancient cities, traditions, and the personal encounters with key political figures, intellectual elites, and cultural leaders. In addition, it highlights his extensive reporting on the country's major events, from the unification of the north and south in 1990, to the challenges faced during the 2011 Arab Spring
Al-Ashmawi, in his new work, provides an in-depth analysis of Yemen's complex situation and its economy. The book underscores the significant resources Yemen possesses, including its oil, gas, and mineral wealth, as well as its young population. Yet despite these advantages, the country remains trapped in poverty and dependent on foreign aid.
In his conclusion, Al-Ashmawi emphasizes the necessity of national unity, prioritizing the nation above any sectarian or narrow interests. He also stresses that the future of Yemen should be in the hands of Yemenis, guided by justice, equality, and an independent national decision-making process, supported by regional and international partners.
This book is part of Al-Ashmawi’s broader focus on Yemen, with previous works dedicated to the country’s unity, politics, and social issues. The book is being promoted as a message of hope and love for Yemen, aiming to counteract the prevailing culture of hate and conflict.
