Yemeni Leaders Meet with EU Officials in Brussels to Strengthen Relations and Discuss Countering Houthi Threats
A group of Yemeni political leaders held meetings with European Union officials in Brussels, discussing the latest developments in Yemen and the region, as well as ways to strengthen EU-Yemen relations.
The discussions included broad consultations with the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, the EU Directorate for International Partnerships, the Middle East team at the European Union Council, and the European External Action Service's Yemen Affairs section.
EU officials emphasized their strong support for the legitimate Yemeni government and their firm rejection of the Houthi militia's actions, particularly their threats to international maritime security
In turn, Yemeni leaders stressed that the current regional circumstances and recent developments require elevating bilateral relations from the humanitarian and diplomatic levels to geopolitical and developmental levels. They also highlighted that the relationship between the EU and the legitimate Yemeni government is not based solely on shared interests but also on mutual principles of pluralism and democracy, making it essential to coordinate efforts to counter the Houthi militia’s threats and violations against the Yemeni people.
The Yemeni delegation included Abd al-Razzaq al-Hajri, a member of the High Committee of the Yemeni Congregation for Reform and leader of the party’s parliamentary group; Abd al-Rahman al-Sakaf, the General Secretary of the Yemeni Socialist Party; Abdullah Numan, the General Secretary of the Yemeni Nasserite Popular Organization; Abdullah Abu Hurayrah, Deputy General Secretary of the National Resistance Movement; and Abd al-Wahhab al-Mu’wada, leader of the parliamentary group of the General People's Congress.
