The United States Designates Houthi Group as a Foreign Terrorist Organization
The United States announced on Tuesday its decision to classify the Houthi group as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization," signaling the American administration’s commitment to safeguarding its security interests. This move is in fulfillment of a promise made by President Donald Trump.

According to a statement issued by the U.S. Department of State, the activities of the Houthis pose a significant threat to the safety of civilians and U.S. personnel in the Middle East. They also jeopardize the safety of regional partners and the stability of global maritime trade, in accordance with Executive Order 14175.

The statement highlighted that the Houthis have carried out hundreds of attacks against commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since the beginning of 2023, in addition to targeting U.S. forces protecting freedom of navigation

Furthermore, the statement pointed out that the Houthis have exempted Chinese-flagged ships from their attacks but specifically targeted American and allied vessels, underlining the nature of their threats.

Washington also emphasized that it will not tolerate any country engaging with terrorist organizations such as the Houthis under the guise of legitimate commercial activities. This decision reflects the Trump administration's commitment to protecting U.S. security interests and curbing the support received by terrorist groups.

On January 22, President Trump decided to place the Ansar Allah "Houthi" group on the list of "Foreign Terrorist Organizations," as part of U.S. efforts to enhance security and stability in the region.
