U.S. Deploys F-35 Jets to Jordan to Deter Iran and Houthis Amid Escalating Tensions
The U.S.-based magazine The National Interest has reported that the United States has deployed F-35 fighter jets to Jordan in a strategic move aimed at deterring Iran and Yemen's Houthi rebels as regional violence continues to escalate.
This development comes as clashes between U.S. forces and the Houthis in Yemen intensify. U.S. President Donald Trump recently pledged to unleash “overwhelming force” to halt Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
In support of this pledge, B-2 stealth bombers have been sent to Diego Garcia, while the aircraft carrier strike group USS Carl Vinson has been redirected toward the Middle East to join the USS Harry Truman.
The F-35 is known for its advanced stealth, avionics, and sensor capabilities, making it a top-tier multirole combat aircraft. Military analysts have described it as the undisputed leader in modern aerial warfare.
Meanwhile, U.S. defense officials have stated that the Pentagon may soon request additional funding from Congress to support the ongoing military operations against the Houthis, due to the rapidly increasing costs.
According to The New York Times, the cost of U.S. airstrikes could exceed 1 billion by next week, with approximately200 million already spent on munitions during the first three weeks of the campaign that began in mid-March.
