US Airstrikes Target Houthi Tunnels and Command Centers Hidden in Cemeteries
ecurity sources in the Yemeni capital Sanaa have revealed the reason behind the recent US airstrikes that targeted two cemeteries on Saturday evening — "Majel Al-Damma" in Al-Safiyah district and "Al-Najimat" in Al-Sabeen district — which were hit by approximately five air raids.
According to the sources, three of the airstrikes struck underground tunnels constructed by the Houthi militia beneath Al-Najimat cemetery. These tunnels stretched for about one kilometer, connecting the Presidential Palace area in Al-Sabeen to the eastern side of the cemetery. The Houthis reportedly used these tunnels as hideouts for senior commanders and as storage facilities for weapons.
The sources confirmed that the Houthi militia had turned these cemeteries into covert command centers, betting on their sanctity to avoid detection and targeting. However, the US strikes successfully destroyed these concealed military structures.
Sanaa witnessed around 22 US airstrikes on Saturday alone, hitting at least nine Houthi locations across several districts, including Bani Hashish, Hamdan, Al-Hosn, Bani Matar, Al-Thawrah, Al-Safiyah, Al-Sabeen, and Al-Haymah Al-Kharijiyah.
These strikes are part of a broader US-led aerial campaign, now in its sixth consecutive week, targeting Houthi positions in 13 Yemeni provinces. The campaign aims to deter the group's growing threats to international maritime navigation in the Red Sea and eliminate key operatives behind drone and long-range missile attacks.
