Foiled Assassination Plot: Houthi Spy Planned to Target Yemen’s Former PM in Aden
Security Belt Forces in Aden have thwarted an attempted assassination plot targeting former Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, orchestrated by a Houthi intelligence operative embedded within the Yemeni government.

According to intelligence sources, the suspect—identified only by initials (H.M.M.A.)—held a position in the General Secretariat of the Prime Ministry and had been gathering sensitive information about bin Mubarak and other officials for weeks. He reportedly coordinated directly with senior Houthi military commanders and made routine trips between Aden and Sana’a for briefings and funding.

The arrest followed a weeks-long intelligence operation. Investigators found that the spy had passed critical documents and information about government employees and strategic movements.

Brigadier General Jalal al-Rubaie, commander of the Security Belt in Aden, hailed the operation as a major blow to Houthi infiltration, reaffirming the readiness of security forces to confront all terrorist threats to the capital and southern Yemen.
