“Abaad Center: Houthi Militias Build Underground Military Cities and Tunnel Networks Preparing for Post‑Collapse Survival”
The head of the Abaad Studies Center, Abdulsalam Mohammed, warned of the advanced underground military infrastructure built by the Houthi militias across several Yemeni provinces. In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Mohammed said the Houthis have completed the construction of full underground “war cities” in Saada, Sanaa, and Hodeidah, while expanding similar facilities in Dhamar and Ibb, along with a complex network of tunnels in the mountains of Raymah, Mahwit, Hajjah, Al-Bayda, and Taiz.
He explained that this underground structure could enable Houthi fighters and their weapons to survive for months — and possibly years — in the event of a military defeat and the collapse of their authority.
Mohammed stressed that any plan to topple the Houthis without dismantling this underground infrastructure and eliminating their five leadership tiers would be a “strategic mistake.” These tiers include the religious leadership, security and military leadership, political and economic leadership, tribal leadership, and field commanders trained by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
He added that the Houthis are currently facing exhaustion and significant leadership gaps due to recent losses, yet they intensify escalation to push for renewed negotiations or a new truce that allows them to recover.
Mohammed noted that several countries no longer see the Houthis as useful for future projects, except for Iran, which continues to rely on them until a potential nuclear agreement is finalized. He emphasized that the Yemeni army and resistance forces must treat this phase as an opportunity to achieve a permanent defeat of the group, not a temporary setback that .allows them to revive later.
