Yemeni Government Renews Call for UN Agencies to Relocate Headquarters to Aden
den - Yemen:
The internationally recognized Yemeni government has renewed its call for United Nations agencies and international organizations to relocate their main offices to the temporary capital, Aden, to ensure the safety of their staff. This comes amid the ongoing detention of dozens of UN employees and aid workers by the Houthi group.

Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Abdullah Al-Saadi, made this statement during a meeting with the new UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Thomas Fletcher, in New York. The meeting discussed the latest developments in Yemen's economic and humanitarian situation and efforts to establish peace in the country.

According to the official news agency, Al-Saadi reiterated the Yemeni government's appeal to international organizations to take effective measures to move their offices to Aden. He emphasized that such a step would protect staff from "Houthi interference in humanitarian work, which they exploit to serve their military and security agendas."

Al-Saadi stressed the government’s commitment to providing all necessary facilities to humanitarian and relief organizations operating in Yemen, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for their work, and facilitating the delivery of aid to those in need across all regions without discrimination or obstacles.

The meeting also addressed the grave and ongoing violations committed by the Houthi group in areas under their control, including a recent campaign of abductions, arbitrary detentions, and enforced disappearances targeting activists, employees of UN agencies, international and local organizations, and diplomatic missions.

Al-Saadi urged the United Nations to fulfill its humanitarian role in protecting its employees and pressuring the Houthis for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees.
