Yemeni Army Secures Strategic Positions in Taiz After Fierce Clashes with Houthis
Military sources confirmed on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, that units of the National Army managed to take control of two strategically important military sites in Taiz Governorate, southwestern Yemen, following fierce confrontations with Houthi militants.
The Yemeni Ministry of Defense announced on its official website, "September Net," that army units had seized control of "Al-Arial" and "Al-Zabia" hills northwest of Taiz city. The area reportedly witnessed a mass retreat of Houthi elements, designated internationally as a terrorist organization.
These developments came after the army units launched counterattacks on Houthi positions around the "Air Defense" area northwest of the city. The clashes resulted in the deaths of 8 Houthi fighters and injuries to 15 others, in addition to inflicting heavy material losses on the group’s equipment and supplies.
Similarly, the national army repelled Houthi attacks on the "Asifra" front north of the city. The army carried out a counteroffensive, forcing the Houthis to retreat. They advanced as far as Al-Arbaeen Street, taking control of several buildings after driving out the militants.
The Ministry of Defense also reported that army units in the western countryside of the governorate thwarted another attack by the Houthis on the "Al-Ahtoub" front in the Maqbanah district, forcing the militants to retreat.
