Gulf Cooperation Council's Unified Message of Support for Syria: Emphasizing Unity and Sovereignty
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Khalid Al-Bedewi, stated that the visit he made alongside the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister to Damascus aimed to deliver a unified message of support for Syria from the GCC countries.
He clarified that the visit included political, economic, and developmental support, stressing the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while rejecting foreign interference in its internal affairs.
Al-Bedewi also emphasized that the GCC countries reaffirmed their stance that the Golan Heights is Syrian territory and condemned the expansion of settlements in that region.
He confirmed that the GCC countries are serious in their commitment to supporting Syria and its people amid the current challenges.
Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya stated that the visit was carried out at the request of the GCC countries to reaffirm their commitment to Syria's unity and territorial integrity.
He noted that Syria’s security and stability are integral to the security of the Gulf and the stability of the region. The meeting reviewed the political and military situation and ways to enhance cooperation among the countries.
Al-Yahya also called on the international community to reconsider the sanctions imposed on Syria, stressing the importance of international cooperation to support the country during this critical period.
Additionally, the Syrian Foreign Ministry announced that Foreign Minister Asad Al-Shaibani had received an official invitation from his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, to visit the Kingdom as part of efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries.
