Triangular Military Meeting in Riyadh Between American, Saudi, and Yemeni Commanders
In the context of enhancing regional security and safeguarding international maritime corridors, General Michael Erik Kurilla, the Commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on January 11-12, 2025.
During the visit, extensive discussions took place with senior Saudi and Yemeni leaders to strengthen military and security cooperation in countering the threats posed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
General Kurilla met with General Fayyad bin Hamad Al-Ruwaili, Chief of the General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces. Their discussions centered on ways to enhance military coordination and improve interoperability between U.S. and Saudi forces, with a focus on the threats targeting regional security.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing joint military exercises and increasing the readiness of their forces.
General Kurilla also met with General Sagir Hamoud bin Aziz, Chief of the General Staff of the Yemeni Armed Forces. They discussed joint efforts to counter the Houthi threats, particularly attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
The leaders stressed the need to intensify military cooperation between the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen to ensure the protection of international maritime routes.
In his statement, General Kurilla reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to supporting regional stability, noting that CENTCOM would continue to provide the necessary support to achieve peace and security in the region.
He highlighted the importance of collaboration between the three countries to address current security challenges, including countering Houthi attacks on commercial ships.
This visit is part of international efforts to enhance regional security and protect international shipping, reflecting a strong commitment from Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and the United States to face common security challenges and support regional stability.
