India Releases Detained Yemeni Citizen – ACJ Calls for International Protection

New Delhi – Indian authorities released Sheikh Khaled Ibrahim Saleh Al-Khudami, a Yemeni citizen, on Friday, following months of arbitrary detention and legal violations against him and his family. The decision was made by Shahada Sessions Court on Thursday and implemented the next day.

In a statement issued Monday, the American Center for Justice (ACJ) welcomed the release as “a positive step toward restoring justice and lifting the injustice” faced by the family in India.

The ACJ praised the vital role played by the Yemeni Consulate in Mumbai, which helped facilitate the legal process and provided humanitarian support to the family during a highly complex situation.

Al-Khudami was arrested in February, followed by the arrest of his wife in early March—who was later released—while their children were placed under house arrest amid media campaigns calling for their deportation.

The center urged the Yemeni Foreign Ministry and the UNHCR to intervene promptly to ensure the family’s safety and to seek resettlement in a third country that guarantees protection and a dignified life for them.

The ACJ emphasized that this case represents just one example of the hardships Yemeni refugees endure abroad, calling for stronger legal and diplomatic efforts to uphold their rights and dignity.
