For the First Time by Sea… Israeli Navy Strikes Hudaydah, Warnings Issued to Evacuate Ports
Hudaydah | June 10, 2025
Israeli media reported on Tuesday that the Israeli military conducted, for the first time, a naval attack targeting facilities at the Hudaydah port in western Yemen. This marks a significant shift from the usual air strikes, with the strikes hitting two targets inside the port without causing casualties.
Earlier, the Israeli military spokesperson issued a warning via the “X” platform, urging evacuation of the Ras Issa, Hudaydah, and Salif ports, stating: “Due to the Houthis’ use of these ports for terrorist activities, we call on all present to leave immediately for their safety, until further notice.”
◼️ Preliminary Intelligence Moves
According to Israeli reports, the Mossad carried out espionage operations inside Yemen in recent months, helping identify an expanded target list including maritime facilities, weapons depots, and missile launch platforms.
This naval strike represents a strategic shift in Israel’s approach against the Houthi militias in Yemen, which had previously relied mainly on air raids or missile interceptions.
◼️ Background of the Escalation
Israel affirms that the attacks on Hudaydah’s port infrastructure aim to cut off Houthi financing sources and are a direct response to ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis toward Israeli territory, which repeatedly targeted Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv.
In recent weeks, Israel conducted several airstrikes in Yemen, notably on May 6 targeting Sana’a’s main airport, alongside previous strikes on Ras Issa port and sites in Hudaydah.
Despite these strikes, Houthi militias continue launching ballistic missiles toward Israel, signaling potential escalation in the already complex regional conflict.
