"Masam": Half a Million Mines Cleared and Millions of Square Meters Made Safe in Yemen
In a significant humanitarian achievement, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) announced that its landmine clearance project, Masam, has successfully cleared over 67 million square meters of land and removed more than 500,000 mines planted by the Iran-backed Houthi militia over the past seven years.

According to KSRelief, since the project's launch in June 2018, various types of explosives—including anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices—have been extracted from densely populated areas across Yemen, posing a major threat to civilians, especially women, children, and the elderly.

The project employs 550 staff members and 32 specialized teams operating in multiple provinces, aiming to restore safety, enable the return of displaced civilians, and support local agriculture.

KSRelief also launched prosthetics centers in several cities to support landmine victims by providing prosthetic limbs and physical rehabilitation services.

The Masam initiative stands as one of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s flagship humanitarian responses and a global model for effective civilian protection and post-conflict recovery.
