Mysterious Cargo Planes Land at Sana'a Airport Despite Being Out of Service
Despite being rendered out of service by Israeli airstrikes nearly two months ago, five large cargo planes landed and took off from Sana'a International Airport on Monday, raising alarm and speculation.
Local residents captured video footage showing one of the planes landing—visibly different from the usual UN humanitarian aircraft seen at the airport.
Dr. Abdulqader Al-Kharraz, head of the "Where's the Money?" campaign that exposes corruption in UN agencies operating in Yemen, questioned the contents of these unmonitored flights and the apparent lack of oversight by the internationally recognized government.
Secret Flights or Weapons Transfers?
According to informed sources, the Houthi militia may be operating secret flights to transport high-ranking members out of Sana’a, especially after some were arrested attempting to travel through government-controlled ports of exit.
The same sources did not rule out the possibility that weapons or military technology are being smuggled via the airport, especially after Israeli strikes disabled Hodeidah’s ports and intercepted several Iranian arms shipments.
The UN's silence on the matter is fueling further suspicions, with observers warning that any military use of the airport poses a serious threat to regional and international security.
