Israeli Airstrikes in Sana’a Kill 9 and Paralyze the Electricity Infrastructure
Israeli airstrikes on electricity stations in Sana’a, Yemen’s capital, early this Thursday morning resulted in the death of 9 people and left several others injured. The strikes ignited a fire at the Hizz power station in the southern part of the city, causing thick smoke to cover the capital’s skies and leading to severe environmental and health issues.

Eyewitnesses reported that areas surrounding the Hizz station, such as Hizz, Dubbuh, Eswad, and Dar Salam, saw many residents suffering from respiratory problems due to the rising smoke. Medical sources confirmed that hospitals, particularly the 48 Government Hospital, were overwhelmed with patients suffering from respiratory diseases and serious injuries, with many being transferred to intensive care units.

Energy sector sources indicated that the burning of diesel fuel tanks at the Hizz power station caused significant economic losses, as the station was forced to shut down, cutting off electricity to two-thirds of Sana’a.

These airstrikes are part of an escalating Israeli military campaign targeting Houthi positions in Sana’a and Hudaydah. Israeli jets also hit the Ras Isa oil port, a target previously struck in September. The Houthis justify their missile and drone attacks on Israel as support for Gaza, but local sources argue that these attacks have led to intensified Israeli strikes on Yemen, worsening the country’s humanitarian crisis.
