Netanyahu Announces Destruction of Houthi Infrastructure: Israeli Military Escalation in Yemen
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday that he had ordered the destruction of the infrastructure of the armed Houthi group in Yemen.
This announcement came during a speech in the Israeli Knesset, where Netanyahu stated that the recent strikes against the Houthis "are not the first, and they will not be the last," pointing out the destruction of significant terrorist assets used by the Houthis against Israel.
In this context, Netanyahu expressed cautious optimism about the chances of reaching a prisoner exchange deal in the Gaza Strip during a heated session in the Knesset.
Reports indicated that the head of Mossad, during high-level meetings between Israel's political and security leadership, called for a direct strike on Iran following the Houthi attacks.
On Saturday, Israeli media reported that Israel is working to build an alliance of several countries to target the Houthis.
Later that same day, the United States conducted airstrikes on the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, targeting several warehouses and Houthi leaders. The U.S. military also announced in a statement that an American aircraft had been downed by friendly fire during the operation.
Israeli intelligence faces significant challenges in Yemen due to its failure to gather the necessary intelligence information.
The Hebrew newspaper Maariv reported that the Israeli army has begun establishing a school within the Intelligence Division to teach the Yemeni dialect.
Last Thursday, Israeli forces launched an offensive on Yemen, carrying out a series of strikes targeting energy infrastructure and ports, resulting in the deaths of nine Yemenis. The attacks were described by Israel as a response to the hundreds of rockets and drones launched by the Houthis since the onset of the aggression on the Gaza Strip 14 months ago.
