US Designates Houthi Movement as a Foreign Terrorist Organization
US President Donald Trump has officially designated the Houthi movement, also known as Ansar Allah, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO), in accordance with the US Constitution and immigration and nationality laws, under 8 U.S.C. 1189.

Trump's decision is based on the support provided by Iran's Quds Force, which has armed and trained the terrorist group. The Houthis have carried out numerous attacks on US Navy warships since 2023, including missile strikes and drone operations.

Additionally, the US president cited the Houthi movement's attacks on civilian infrastructure, such as multiple assaults on civilian airports in Saudi Arabia, deadly attacks in January 2022 against the UAE, and over 300 rockets fired at Israel since October 2023.

The Houthis have also repeatedly targeted commercial shipping vessels passing through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. These attacks have led to the deaths of at least four civilian sailors and forced several shipping routes in the Red Sea to be rerouted, contributing to global inflation

Trump emphasized that the Houthi actions represent a direct threat to the security of civilians, US personnel in the region, and global maritime stability.

In line with US policy, the government is working with regional partners to undermine the Houthi capabilities and operations, severing their resources, and ending their attacks on American civilians, US allies, and international shipping in the Red Sea.

The US Secretary of State will submit a report within 30 days to the President, through the National Security Council, regarding the Houthi designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization under 8 U.S.C. 1189. Following this, the necessary actions will be taken within 15 days to formalize the designation.
