Diplomatic Shift in Yemen: Abdulwahab Al-Hadjeri Replaces Mohammed Al-Hadrami as Ambassador to the US
Former Yemeni politician and diplomat Ali Al-Omrani revealed that the Presidential Council of Yemen has decided to replace Ambassador Mohammed Al-Hadrami with Abdulwahab Al-Hadjeri as the new Ambassador to the United States.
Al-Omrani, a member of the Yemeni Parliament, shared the news via a post on the social media platform (X), stating that the decision was made before the expiration of Al-Hadrami’s legal term. He clarified that the change was not based on any objective reasons but rather the result of external pressures due to Al-Hadrami's national stance.
Additionally, Al-Omrani, who previously served as Yemen’s Ambassador to Jordan, noted that both Abdulwahab Al-Hadjeri and Mohammed Al-Hadrami share a good personal relationship and possess high professional qualifications. He emphasized that while former President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi resisted external pressures, his successors in the Presidential Council appear more inclined to follow foreign dictates
Al-Omrani pointed out that Al-Hadrami is not the first ambassador to be replaced under external pressure due to his national positions, and that such changes may continue in Yemen. He also stressed the important role the new ambassador will play in the current exceptional circumstances.
Mohammed Al-Hadrami was known for his national stance, particularly when he sharply criticized the United Arab Emirates at the United Nations in 2019 over its violations in Yemen. Recently, he had called for international support for the Yemeni government in liberating the Hudaydah port from Houthi control.
