Sudan Cuts Diplomatic Ties with UAE, Accuses Abu Dhabi of Military Aggression
Sudan’s Security and Defense Council announced Tuesday the severance of diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, accusing it of launching acts of aggression by supporting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) with advanced weaponry.
In an official statement, Sudan declared the UAE a "hostile state" after it allegedly escalated military support to RSF, enabling drone attacks on vital infrastructure, including oil depots, airports, and power stations in Port Sudan.
The council claimed that Abu Dhabi intensified its involvement following RSF’s recent battlefield losses, threatening Sudanese sovereignty and the stability of the Red Sea region. As a result, Sudan will withdraw its diplomatic and consular staff from the UAE and reserves the right to defend itself under international law.
This announcement came one day after the International Court of Justice dismissed Sudan’s genocide lawsuit against the UAE over alleged crimes in Darfur, citing lack of jurisdiction. The UAE has yet to respond publicly to the decision.
